Marine Grade Aluminum 5083 5086 Plate

When ships are operating in the marine environment, they need to be immersed in seawater with high salinity for a long time. Affected by the electrolyte characteristics of seawater, aluminum alloys will experience electrochemical corrosion and other phenomena. In the process of shipbuilding, marine aluminum alloys with good corrosion resistance are used.

In the vast marine environment, the chloride ions contained in seawater will cause great damage to the passivation film, resulting in a decrease in the stability of aluminum alloys, pitting and crevice corrosion are very likely to occur. In some cases, intergranular corrosion, exfoliation corrosion and stress corrosion may also occur.

During the shipbuilding process, the corrosion rate of 5000 series aluminum alloy caused by seawater is very slow, among which low-magnesium aluminum alloy has good corrosion resistance, and 6000 series aluminum alloy has higher corrosion resistance. Therefore, these two series of aluminum alloys have been widely used and promoted in the shipbuilding process.

The marine grade aluminum 5083 has high plasticity, toughness and corrosion resistance, especially in the atmosphere, fresh water, seawater and other environments. At the same time, it has good welding performance and can be processed by various welding methods, such as manual arc welding, TIG welding, MIG welding, etc. In addition, 5083 aluminum plate also has excellent fatigue resistance and is suitable for structural parts that withstand repeated loading and unloading.

5383 aluminum alloy is a new marine aluminum alloy developed by adding trace amounts of Cu and Zn elements to 5083 aluminum alloy. This aluminum alloy not only has comparable weldability, forming process performance, and plasticity to 5083 aluminum alloy, but also has better corrosion resistance and higher welding strength. It is now widely used in ship superstructures, speedboat or yacht hulls, torpedo hulls, torpedo water tanks and other ship structures.

The marine 5086 aluminum plate welds easily and retains most of its mechanical strength. Good welding results and excellent corrosion resistance in seawater make 5086 very popular in the construction of ship gangways, boats and yacht hulls. 5086 aluminum is the recommended hull material for small aluminum boats and large yachts. Its high strength and excellent corrosion resistance make it ideal for yachts.
