5083 5086 Aluminum Plate for Shipbuilding

Ship structures are mostly used in harsh seawater media and marine environments, so whether aluminum alloys are corrosion resistant is one of the main signs that determine whether they can be used as marine grade aluminum sheets. At present, 5086 and 5083 aluminum plate are widely used.

Because marine aluminum plates have special requirements for strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, etc., aluminum-magnesium alloys, aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloys and aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloys are mostly used for making ships. The corrosion resistance and weldability of 5083 aluminum plate are just suitable for ships building.

Generally speaking, the thickness of the plates used is determined by the hull structure, ship specifications and parts of use, etc. Considering the ship lightweight, thin plates are generally used as much as possible, but the depth of corrosion of the plates during the use time should also be considered.

The deck is an important structural part of the hull, playing an important role in ensuring the strength and unsinkability of the hull, and providing an area for arranging various cabins and mechanical equipment. 5086 aluminum plate is often used for deck production.

5086 aluminum alloy is a well-known aluminum plate having good corrosion resistance in the atmosphere, water, oil and other media. The magnesium content generally does not exceed 7%. As the magnesium content increases, the strength of the alloy will increase, but the plasticity will decrease. It is usually used in the annealed, cold-worked or semi-cold-worked hardened state.

The 5086 aluminum plate for deck has low density, high tensile strength, high elongation, and high corrosion resistance. It has medium strength and good weldability.
