What Are Uses of Naval Aluminum 5086
The main elements of the 5000 series alloy are aluminum plus magnesium. They are characterized by medium to high strength, excellent seawater corrosion resistance, excellent welding performance, and the highest strength and hardness among work-hardened aluminum alloys. Alloys suitable for ship structures include 5086, 5083, 5383, 5456, and 5059.
Naval Aluminum 5086 is the recommended hull material for small aluminum boats and large yachts. Its high strength and excellent corrosion resistance make it ideal for yachts. Recently, 5086-O aluminum alloy plates and 5086-H111 aluminum alloy extruded profiles are used on high-speed boats.
5086 aluminum sheet, a typical Al-Mg alloy, has a magnesium content of not over 7%. As the magnesium content increases, the strength of the alloy will increase, while the plasticity will decrease. 5086 aluminum sheet is usually used in the annealed state, cold work hardening or semi cold work hardening state.
Generally speaking, the thickness of the aluminum plate is determined by the hull structure, ship specifications and use location. From the perspective of lightweighting the hull, thin aluminum plates are generally used as much as possible, but the depth of corrosion of the plate during use should also be considered. Commonly used plates include thin aluminum plates above 1.6mm and thick aluminum plates above 30mm.
5086 aluminum plate is a best-selling marine grade aluminum and is widely used in the manufacture of ship hulls, decks, etc. Similarly, the 5086 patterned aluminum plate with surface embossing treatment is also the best material for spiral staircases, pedals, refrigerated truck wall panels and floors on large ships.
5086 aluminum welding chooses ER5183 aluminum welding wire. This welding wire is generally used in welding processing of ships, drilling equipment, trains, automobiles, storage tanks and pressure vessels, etc. Applicable parent metals include 5083, 5086, 5456, 5052, 5652 and 5056.
In addition to ships, EN AW 5086 is also used in the making of railway freight car. It is characterized by being coverless and having four side panels, two of which have openable side doors to facilitate unloading of goods. 5086 aluminum sheet has a small specific gravity. It can be used to manufacture open wagons for coal transportation to reduce the vehicle's weight, save energy, and increase the load capacity.
